Serve In The Community
As followers of Jesus Christ, we feel that our lives should be defined by service. Jesus Himself said that He did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45). At Northshore Church, we want to be known as a community that gives much in service to others. We desire to be more than just another building, and move out from the walls of our church and into the streets to serve the greater needs of our community. Service opportunities at Northshore are targeted to encompass a diverse population with a variety of challenges. We all, no matter our age, can show God's mercy and justice to others by serving them in practical ways. Listed below are some ongoing ministries at Northshore Church.

Joy Ministry
The JOY Ministry reaches out to the elderly in our community with the love of Christ. Many are lonely, without family or friends, and in need of more joy and encouragement in their lives. About Joy
The goal of the JOY Ministry is to reach out to the elderly in our community with the love of Christ. Many are lonely, without family or friends, and in need of more joy and encouragement in their lives. They show so much gratitude and appreciation as we reach out to them, which leaves us blessed in return.
Joy History
Over two years ago, JOY began at Greenbriar Community Center. Team members provided manicures for residents one Saturday morning a month and also distributed cookies to all. Today, the ministry to the nursing home now supports several social activities and fundraising events which provide outside activities for residents. The social events include a Mardi Gras parade & banquet, Christmas party, Summer Luau, and bingo with prizes for all. The annual fundraisers are the Spring Fling and the Fall Festival which include games, live music, a cakewalk, concessions and a garage sale. The families of the residents are invited and they are open to the public as well. In addition, we decorate residents’ doors for Christmas to give them a lift, as their rooms are small and have no room for trees.
Opportunities To Serve
There are many opportunities to use your gifts and serve within this ministry. For example, we give manicures, we have ladies who make simple lap quilts and crochet prayer shawls that are treasured by residents. We also have monthly meetings where we make decorations for the upcoming events described above, and enjoy the fellowship of one another. You can also help us minister to the residents who are struggling with loneliness, as some have outlived their family members and friends. Residents love having visitors! Please let us know if you are interested in visiting a resident on a regular basis (weekly, biweekly, or monthly). Men, there are plenty of opportunities for you as well. We encourage men to build relationships with the male residents. We could also use your help in setting up and tearing down for our events. Meals That Heal
Meals that Heal is a ministry which provides meals to the church family and community members during a time of need, such as: times of crisis, after a birth of a baby, hospitalization, death in the family, etc. Serving others by simply providing a meal is a great way to encourage others and show God's love. What Is Meals That Heal Ministy?
We provide meals and beyond to church members and individuals in times of need.
How Does It Work?
The meal coordinator is made aware of a need, either through a direct request, or through a referral by someone within the church. Volunteers are then contacted and asked to provide a meal (home cooked or purchased) and deliver it to the recipient’s home. We utilize a customized online sign up sheet to organize our meal schedules. Takethemameal.com allows us to include phone numbers, driving directions, food allergies and more which makes it easy for friends and family to take meals to those in need.
Who Do We Serve?

Meal Guidelines?

We provide a complete meal and deliver it to the recipient’s home.

It can be store bought, homemade, frozen or just about anything!

Meals do not have to be fancy or gourmet.

We attempt to accommodate allergies and food preferences.

We attempt to use containers that are throw away, or do not have to be returned.

We strive to work out a schedule that benefits the recipient the most while working with the schedule of the volunteer.
How Can You Help?
The Meals that Heal ministry is an excellent way to meet other people from church and make a difference in someone’s life. Meals DO NOT have to be homemade. In situations such as these, it is definitely “the thought that counts.” The purpose is to help someone in need by providing a helping hand in meal preparation, not to dazzle anyone with your culinary skills. In times of need, a friendly face and a meal is a true gift. Care Team
The Care Team is a ministry of Northshore Church that serves to minister to others by visiting people who are in the hospital, nursing home, or a home setting who are sick, shut in, or just in need of a caring friend to show the love of Christ. Philippians 2:4 says, "Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." Volunteers of this team will make every effort to make contact (actual visitation or phone call) at least once a week. Please contact Leah Cheshire for more information on volunteering.
